The Sandbox to Launch SANDChain Testnet in October, Ushering in a New Era for the Creator Economy

The Sandbox, one of the world’s leading metaverse platforms, is preparing to revolutionize the creator economy with the upcoming launch of SANDChain, its new creator-first blockchain network. The public testnet debut is scheduled for October 14, 2025, marking a major milestone in the evolution of the Web3 creative ecosystem.

Designed as a high-speed Layer 2 blockchain, SANDChain aims to provide creators with the tools and infrastructure needed to build, monetize, and scale their content seamlessly. With transaction speeds exceeding 10,000 transactions per second and extremely low fees, SANDChain promises to empower millions of creators while enhancing the broader Sandbox ecosystem.

What Is SANDChain and Why It Matters

SANDChain builds on the foundation of The Sandbox’s thriving ecosystem, which already boasts over 8 million wallet users, 25,000 LAND owners, 400 brand partners, and more than 700,000 user-generated experiences — including 1,500 games created by independent developers.

The network will continue using $SAND, The Sandbox’s native token, which ranks among the top 100 cryptocurrencies and is listed on over 80 global exchanges. This integration ensures that SANDChain remains deeply connected to the platform’s established economy while introducing new capabilities for creators and fans alike.

Announced at TOKEN2049: A Big Step for The Sandbox

The launch of SANDChain was officially revealed during TOKEN2049 Singapore, one of Asia’s largest blockchain conferences. Early access registration is already open through the SANDChain Creator Manifesto, allowing interested developers and creators to participate in the testnet phase.

The project has attracted significant support from across the Web3 landscape, with partners including Animoca Brands, ZKsync, Sequence, EigenCloud, Ready Player Me, Request Finance, Mocaverse, and Cool Cats. Notable creators such as BabyYors, Alex Florez, and Pandapops have also joined, alongside major cultural brands like Agoria and Pucca.

A Platform for the “Creator Nation”

According to Sébastien Borget, Co-founder and COO of The Sandbox, SANDChain represents a natural evolution of the platform’s mission to empower creators worldwide.

“The Sandbox has empowered a global community of creators, and SANDChain builds on that foundation to create a dedicated economic and engagement layer for creators across any platform — including YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, App Store, Google Play, Steam, Roblox, Fortnite, and The Sandbox itself,”
said Borget.
“By rewarding loyalty, we’re transforming fans into active participants in culture and paving the way towards a ‘Creator Nation’ built, owned, grown, and funded by its creators and supporters.”

By leveraging The Sandbox’s robust infrastructure — with millions of users and hundreds of global brand collaborations — SANDChain seeks to create a decentralized digital economy where creativity and community ownership take center stage.

How SANDChain Works: Empowering Fans and Creators

The SANDChain ecosystem introduces several innovative mechanisms to strengthen relationships between creators and their audiences, including:

  • SANDpoints – a network-wide loyalty and reputation system that rewards participation.

  • Creator Points – track fan engagement and support for individual developers, unlocking exclusive rewards and token allocations.

  • Creator Tokens – tradeable assets linked to a creator’s brand, giving fans a new way to invest in their favorite creators.

The platform also features two financial tools — Creator Vaults and Patron Vaults.
Creator Vaults allow developers to tokenize future revenue streams from platforms like YouTube or TikTok, while Patron Vaults let fans fund creator projects and earn yield and loyalty points in return.

This dual structure aims to turn digital fandom into a participatory economy, blurring the lines between creators, investors, and audiences.

A New Funding Model for Digital Creativity

Robby Yung, CEO of The Sandbox, emphasized that SANDChain will play a vital role in supporting creator monetization and long-term growth.

“The Sandbox is thrilled to partner with The SANDChain Foundation to provide creators with funding rails, automated revenue management, and ways to turn audience support into tangible growth,”
said Yung.

By combining blockchain scalability, creator-focused tools, and an existing global user base, The Sandbox aims to position SANDChain as a cornerstone of the next-generation creator economy — one that is open, decentralized, and community-driven.

With the testnet launch set for October 14, all eyes are on The Sandbox as it prepares to take another bold step toward shaping the future of digital creation and Web3 innovation.
